Rehabilitation Success Story - Sharon Adams
July 1, 2021
Mrs. Adams came to Keystone Pointe for rehabilitation after a spinal fusion from T12 to S1. She lives at home with her husband and was independent with all ADLS and IADLS. Her goal was to get back home as soon as possible and be as independent as possible before! Upon admission, Mrs. Adams was evaluated by therapy and determined to need physical and occupational therapy.
When Mrs. Adams first began therapy, she required moderate assistance with bathing and toileting, and maximum assistance with lower body dressing. She needed therapy to help increase her activity tolerance so she could go home and complete tasks like she used to. Lastly, she required physical therapy to help with her strength, transfers, ambulation, and ability to go up and downstairs again.
After working hard and participating in occupational and physical therapy, Mrs. Adams was able to discharge home with her husband after just 11 days!
At discharge, she was independent with toileting, dressing, and transfers. She was able to stand for 6 minutes to complete daily tasks and improved both her lower and upper body strength. Finally, she was able to use a rollator and walk over 275 feet, was independent with transfers and bed mobility, and was able to go up and down 4 stairs!
Our therapy team is so proud of Mrs. Adams and the hard work she put into going home!
