Keystone Pointe and Elyria Public Library: A Literary Partnership
January 29, 2024
Keystone Pointe is proud to partner with Elyria Public Library for their Bookmobile and outreach programs! Since 2022, our residents have enjoyed the Elyria Bookmobile coming to our community twice per month. Residents can look for a variety of books, music, and DVDs. There are several options for accessibility as well - many residents enjoy audiobooks on CD, but the library also offers books on Playaway. These small devices contain an entire book, and residents just press play! The bookmobile is open to all residents, as well as staff.
Through the continued partnership with the Bookmobile, residents have increased access to meaningful and current literature. This helps keep the residents involved in the community.
"When I came to Keystone I was so happy to learn the library comes out a few times a month," said one resident.
"I have been a reader my whole life so I love that I can pick a few books from those they bring. The library staff that come out will also help us reserve books and they are mailed out or they bring them at the next visit. They are so nice!"
Another resident lauded the program, adding
"I love the library. Before the library came, I used to buy books but now I can get them for free. I look forward to seeing the Bookmobile every two weeks. The librarians are like my friends - they know me so well, they even recommend what books to read. A lot of times I get around nine books and sometimes magazines! They also bring brand new books and bestsellers too."
The outreach program, which occurs once a month, involves library staff leading residents in a special program with varied topics. Residents have enjoyed specialty trivia, art history lectures, and a crash course introduction to robotics programming (just to name a few)! The Activity Department has also planned to attend several library events including talks on the upcoming solar eclipse, and a men's club outing to enjoy a lecture on the Cleveland Indians of the 1990's.
"I am constantly seeking new ways to engage the residents and involve the community in life here at Keystone Pointe," stated Activity Director Amanda Zisk.
"The EPL's Bookmobile and outreach program initiatives are two wonderful ways our residents connect with the community - and it's very rare that a bookmobile regularly comes to a care facility! We are very grateful for their continued partnership and support."
